there were a lot of things that i wanted to write about but i forgot all of them
I thought it was cool you had a whole country named after you. You liked Diary of a Wimpy kid too. I was wearing that stupid white longsleeve with an embroidered flower in the center when you saved my life as I tripped and fell in the lunch line and you caught my elbow to prevent it from shattering into a million pieces.

At one point I heard it meant a boy liked you if they were mean to you. So naturally, I thought the reverse held true as well. That's why I kicked you. It didn't make sense. I made up the part about you punching me to make it make sense. Yeah, you headbutt me once, but that was consensual.

Recess room wasn't worth it. I spent the time writing my name over and over again and staring into space. We didn't talk much after that I think. But then again, we did OOTM together in the years after.

One day after practice we were walking out of Roshni's garage and you had this book. One of the sections said that you can tell if someone likes you if your pupils expand when you make eye contact. We briefly looked at each other then laughed.

There were only a handful of white people at Clark. The camo twins, one skinny and one fat. The Jewish boy, Benjamin Marsh, whose mom brought silkworm cocoons every year to watch them hatch. Pilar, daughter of a PTA mom (I think). Natalie Loeber, who unfollowed me in high school even though we talked almost every day in middle school.

You.

In 6th grade, you and Pilar started walking around the track together during recess, and pretty soon, word spread that you both had started dating.

We parted ways when you went to my rival middle school, and that was the last I ever saw of you until the reunion.

You came up to me at the reunion, and I wasn't sure if you remembered me.

"Do you remember me?" he asked me. Funny.

I forgot most of our conversation. In fact, the previous detail is mostly fabricated, but I like to think that's how it went. All I remember is that he came up to me and thanked me for putting this together, and one of us had a drink in our hands, and all I could think about was how 4th grade me would be freaking out over this interaction, but 8 years later, I couldn't give less of a shit.
