golden milk (manjaal paal)
Apr. 1st, 2023 10:41 pmMy mother used to make manjaal paal for me when I was sick.
On its own, turmeric is quite bitter. But doused in heaps of sugar and hidden in milk, a sickness remedy is created-- a delicacy better than coke, without the weird earthy aftertaste of milla tea. And fast to make.
As a prolific milk drinker, I've perfected the temperature that milk should be heated to if you want something that's not too hot and not too lukewarm: 1 minute and 24 seconds. So naturally as I got older, my mother taught me to make manjaal paal, and now when my family is sick, they ask me to make it.
It's commercialized now in hipster coffee shops under its namesake: "Golden Milk." But you'll never catch me paying for something I drink when I'm sick.
