WARNING: JELLYFISH IN THE WTER
Jul. 9th, 2023 12:28 amIt's funny how it's a lot easier to write and enjoy things when I actually leave my house. I left my house for the first time in a week to socialize with non-family members. I took J's sister to the Asian [redacted] Alumni event and also met up with a friend from there who's in SF for the summer. I ate peanut butter noodles, a spring roll, pasta, this good mango cilantro salad, chocolate covered strawberries, and cake. There was also this berry thing that tasted like plastic. It was very windy and there was a sign about jellyfish in the water.
At one point we talked to this '84 alumnus and at first I thought he would be one of those insufferable older people who talk and talk and it's boring, but I actually enjoyed the conversation. He asked questions when it got awkwardly silent, and I ranted to him about being a transfer student. I also liked fraternizing with the pre-frosh and being explicitly jaded. And it was good to be there with friends.
After I dropped J's sister off, I sat on J's driveway with her and we ate Hagen Daz ice cream and talked. It was really nice and I miss her a lot so it was good to see her. I really love her.
About an hour ago I went on a deep dive of Belchertown history because I have a friend from there and I follow the Facebook page because it's funny sometimes. I learned a lot about the ableist/eugenicist practices of state schools. I think it's one of those towns that has a lot you can say about it, especially if you grew up there. I'm fascinated by what it's like to be from a place like that, because my tech suburbia experience is such a bubble of its own that on the outside looking in, it feels cringeworthy.
